Caring for your Artwork
To ensure longevity and preserve the quality of your artwork, follow these care guidelines:
Paintings & Works on Paper
- Avoid Direct Sunlight - UV exposure can cause fading over time. If framing, opt for UV-protective glass.
- Maintain Stable Humidity Levels - A controlled environment with 40-60% humidity helps prevent warping or cracking.
- Use Archival Framing - Acid-free materials and museum-quality glass enhance longevity.

Assemblages & Mixed Media Works
- Minimize Handling - Oils and dirt from hands can degrade certain materials over time.
- Dust Gently - Use a soft brush or compressed air for delicate areas. Avoid chemical cleaners.
- Store in a Stable Environment – Extreme temperature shifts can affect structural integrity.
Panels & Framing Instructions
- Use a Floater Frame – If framing, a floater frame allows for protection without direct contact with the edges of the panel.
- Avoid Direct Mounting with Glass – Panels should not be pressed against glass, as moisture buildup can cause deterioration.
- Use Archival Spacers – If framing with glass or acrylic, ensure proper air circulation by using spacers to prevent moisture trapping.
- Secure Mounting – Use a sturdy hanging system, such as a French cleat or D-rings, to evenly distribute weight and prevent warping.
- Temperature Control – Keep in a room with stable temperatures to avoid wood expansion or contraction.
Oil Paintings on Panel
- Apply Varnish for Protection – Use a removable varnish like Gamvar to protect against dust, UV exposure, and aging. Wait at least 6 months before applying a final varnish.
- Ensure Proper Airflow – If framing, use spacers to keep the artwork from touching the glass.
- Store & Display in Stable Conditions – Maintain 40-55% humidity and keep away from direct heat or extreme cold to prevent cracking.
- Avoid Wrapping in Plastic for Storage – Plastic traps moisture and can cause the paint to sweat. Use acid-free paper or silicone-release paper instead.
- Handle with Clean Hands – Oils from skin can affect the surface over time. Always handle using clean gloves or by the panel edges.
